Born in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, the style grew from a wonderful musical mash-up of blues, ragtime, country, gospel, folk, and early string-band traditions.

And that makes it a pretty perfect match for Americana—music that happily borrows from country, folk, blues, bluegrass, soul, gospel, rock, and R&B without worrying too much about which box it belongs in.
